Common shortcuts and what they miss.
Surface movement can involve the base, bedding layer, joints or perimeter restraint.
- Reset loose pavers without checking the baseA surface reset may not address settlement or insufficient support below the pavers.
- Skip the edge restraint to save a stepWithout an edge holding the pattern in, the joints open up and the pavers spread outward.
- Lay pavers on sand with no base stoneSand alone shifts under weight. The compacted stone underneath is what carries the load.
