Excavation and compacted base
The ground is cut to depth and crushed stone is compacted in lifts so the field has something solid under it.

Screeded bedding layer
A leveling layer of sand is struck flat across the base, the surface the pavers actually sit on.

Pattern and border
Pavers set to the chosen pattern, with a border or soldier course framing the field.

Edge restraint
A restraint set at the perimeter to help limit outward movement.

Joint sand and compaction
Sand is swept into the joints, then final compaction seats the pavers and settles the sand.
